Woodworking, which has a wide range of usage in religious architecture, is today performed by experts in the field. Of course, the spiritual dimension of this work should also be considered and the purpose it serves should not be overlooked. Masjid Design acts with the awareness that workmanship and quality are very important in mosque furniture and produces durable wooden altars. You can see the fine workmanship, quality, and durability of the wooden altar produced by Masjid Design. So, what is the meaning of wooden altars?

What is a Wooden Mihrab?

The place where Prophet Muhammad stood in prayer was in front of the qibla wall, and a stone was used to honor that place at the time. Today, decorations have gained a different dimension and have been developed with domes and called mihrab. All mosques are directed towards the qibla and the qibla wall is prominent. However, a niche was designed on the wall to honor the pulpit, and this was called mihrab. Mihrabs do not have specific sizes and dimensions; their shapes vary depending on the material. The high candlesticks on the right and left sides of the mihrab were placed specifically to be able to see the imam during nightly prayers.

The wooden mihrab is considered a very important part of mosques and therefore its production requires finesse and meticulousness. Wooden Mihrab is defined in the dictionary as a niche that points to Mecca, which we define as the qibla, and the direction to turn during prayer. Mihrabs, which have been present in architecture since the first years of Islam, are produced with high workmanship by Masjid Design. These wooden altar elements, which are of high importance in religious architecture, are Crown, Frame, Pediment, Corner, Kavsara, Niche, Column, and Seating.
